WALTERBORO SOCCER CLUB RULES

The Walterboro Soccer Club Board of Directors has discussed the following rules for Teams, Coaches, Players and Parents and adopted them as guidelines for all members of WSC.

WSC EXPECTS TEAMS:

  1. To represent Walterboro Soccer Club proudly at all times.
  2. To work together and that coaches, players, and parents will each meet their individual expectations as outlined in this handout.
  3. To designate a Team Manager to attend periodic meetings and serve as a liaison between the Club and Team members.  Manager will also assist the coach in dissemination information about team activities (schedules, drinks, etc.) and address concerns of parents with the coach if necessary.
  4. To participate in Club fund-raising and volunteer efforts.

WSC EXPECTS COACHES:

  1. To exhibit exemplary conduct at both practices and games.
  2. To coach clean, skillful, honest soccer.
  3. To stress playing hard to win over winning itself.
  4. To work hard on team morale.
  5. To maximize praise and minimize criticism of players.
  6. To properly plan practices making them fun as well as instructive.
  7. To treat the referee with respect no matter what the call!
  8. To exhibit good sportsmanship win or lose.
  9. To give the Team their all.
  10. To play all Recreation players 50% of each game.
  11. To work with Team Manager to coordinate team activities.
  12. To address concerns of parents fairly and appropriately.
  13. To involve team parents in all decisions regarding financial obligations (i.e., special uniforms, tournaments, team awards, parties, end of year gifts, etc.)  Please remember players join anticipating a set Club fee.  Any additional team cost should be discussed openly with team parents.  WSC favors teams wearing Club uniforms and utilizing minimal cost on awards and celebrations.
  14. To continually improve coaching skills and knowledge of soccer.
  15. To participate in coaches meetings and abide by WSC By-Laws and Expectations.
  16. To be appropriately licensed.

 WSC EXPECTS PLAYERS:

  1. To attend all practices and games on time.
  2. To behave and work hard at practices.
  3. To respect the coaches and do as they are told.
  4. To play in the position they are asked to play without complaint.
  5. To not complain about playing time.
  6. To play hard at all times.
  7. To respect the referee at all times.
  8. To be supportive of their teammates at all times and to never criticize them.
  9. To play clean, skillful honest soccer.
  10. To respect the opposition and exhibit good sportsmanship, win or lose.
  11. To be properly equipped at all practices and games.
  12. To respect Club property and equipment.

In Recreation Soccer, players are guaranteed 50% playing time.

However, players who miss practice for no good reason, who misbehave during practices or games, who are disrespectful to their coaches, who exhibit unsportsmanlike behavior during practices or games, may, at the coach’s discretion, find their playing time reduced regardless of how good a player they may be.

 In Classic Soccer, players are not guaranteed playing time.  However, players who show up for practices and work hard will get their fair share of time on the pitch.

 WSC EXPECTS PARENTS:

  1. To get players to practices and games on time.
  2. To make sure players are properly equipped, including ball, shin guards, and water bottles.
  3. To support the coaches at all times.
  4. To support the players at all times.
  5. To NOT coach players from the sidelines.
  6. To remain on the opposite sideline from the team bench throughout the game and half-time.
  7. To allow coaches to initially assess injuries by remaining on the sideline unless summoned.  Your player will appreciate this as well.
  8. To never criticize players, only encourage them.
  9. To treat the referee with respect, no matter what the call.
  10. To encourage sportsmanship, win or lose.
  11. To display appropriate sportsmanlike behavior, keeping in mind that both teams are made up of children.
  12. To stress playing hard to win over winning itself.
  13. To remember this is a youth program and above all we want the game to be FUN for the children.
  14. To comply with Club by-laws and expectations.
  15. To participate in the operation of the Club by volunteering (i.e., concession stand, registration, coach, committees….)
