2012 Walterboro Soccer Club Wildfire Day PDF Print E-mail
WOW!!! What a wonderful turnout we had Saturday.  The weather was awesome, food was fantastic, the kids had a great time, and the support and donations were overwhelming.  With the money we raised, we were able to put a substantial dent into out remaining balance for the new construction of the bathroom and concession stand facility.

Some things to be on the lookout for this summer:
  • Our Annual Summer Camp.  This should be sometime at the beginning of August.
  • We are working on a club sponsored night at a Charleston Battery game. These are a lot of fun. The players put on a clinic before the game for the kids and the best part is, their admission is free.
  • Fall Registration will be opening up near the end of the summer as well.
  • Volunteers needed for coaching, routine maintenance, help with the summer camp, etc.
All these things will be posted around town, on our website (www.walterborosoccerclub.org) and on our new facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WalterboroSoccerClub

Thanks again everyone for the wonderful time we had Saturday and we look forward to your continued support of the Walterboro Soccer Club!!

Board Meeting Update PDF Print E-mail
Parents and Players:

The WSC Board of Directors held its monthly meeting last night and asked that I send the following update to all club members.

1.  WILDFIRE DAY REMINDER - Saturday May 5 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  We will have micro games and exhibition matches with the traveling teams, raffles, WSC merchandise for sale (hopefully), and activities for the children.  Please attend.  This is an important fundraiser for the club.

2.  CHICKEN DINNERS - Money and orders are due back in to Seth Hester and Caroline Hooker on or before Thursday April 26.  We need this fundraiser to bring in a ton of cash to pay for our part of the new building so please SELL, SELL, SELL!

3.  FOOD AND DRINK ITEMS FOR SALE ON WILDFIRE DAY - Parents/coaches, if you are assigned to bring deserts we need you to make cookies or brownies and package them in individual bags with two or three in a bag. We need them delivered to the fields on Sat, May 5 by 10:00.  If you are asked to bring drinks, we would like bottled water, juice boxes, Gatorade or soft drinks. We would like all drinks to be at the fields before Sat May 5. Please take your drinks to your coaches and have the coaches contact one of us and we can get them.

4.  VOLUNTEER POOL - We will have a table set up on WILDFIRE DAY for parents to sign up if they are able to volunteer time to the club.  We will be establishing a volunteer pool for next season and assigning tasks.  Please consider volunteering. Right now we have a handful of people who handle the lion's share of the jobs and I do not believe it can continue that way.  If we cannot establish a volunteer pool we will have to contract out the tasks which will cause us to raise fees.  Please remember the goal of being a "parent run" club is to keep fees low so everyone can participate.

5.  LANDSCAPING DESIGN PERSON - We are looking for a person who can draw us up a simple landscaping plan for the center entrance to the fields adjacent to the building.  If you know anyone who can help us with this, please email me.

6.  DIRECTOR OF COACHING - We currently have a vacancy in our Director of Coaching (DOC) position.  This is an extremely important position for the club bc the DOC coordinates coaching recruitment, training, and education.  If you know of anyone who has a Class E certification OR experience coaching or playing at a higher level who may be interested please email me.

7.  Congratulations to the U12 Boys Strikers team for winning their division at the SCYSA Kohls America Cup in Sumter this past weekend! They put an old fashioned beatdown on the competition and represented the club well, as did the U12 Girls Embers team.  It was a very good and inexpensive tournament.  Hopefully, we can have more teams go next year.

See you all next weekend.
BERT DUFFIE, PRESIDENT
